Congrats to our second awardee, Marie Bel-Air

We are ecstatic to announce our second recipient of the 2nd Chance Opportunity Scholarship Award, Marie Bel-Air (She/Her)

Marie is a Nursing student at Portland Community College. Her long term goal is,

“to become a Doctor of Nursing Practice, which will grant me the ability to create nursing leaders… a leadership role that will enable me to make a positive contribution to not only the students entrusted to me but also my community.”

I will be actively seeking my Associate's Degree in nursing, which I will utilize to further my studies in clinical nursing.

Marie will be practicing she/her profession as a registered nurse while pursuing a bachelor of science in nursing.

"Essentially, my long-term goal is to become a Doctor of Nursing Practice, which will grant me the ability to create nursing leaders. Upon my DNP degree completion, I look forward to transitioning into a leadership role that will enable me to make a positive contribution to not only the students entrusted to me but also my community. However, my career aspirations can only come to fruition with the opportunity to advance my studies by attending college, and obtaining scholarships will be a financial imperative part of that."

Marie's Inspiration

On January 12, 2010, A 7.0 magnitude earthquake shook the core of Marie's birthplace: Haiti. Marie followed several news sources relentlessly with grief, and disbelief at the devastating effect of the earthquake. Marie was inspired by the team of nurses and Doctors that sprung into action and flew to Haiti to administer as much aid as possible, some health professionals along with countless volunteers did not sleep for days.

"Their efforts were admirable and my heart redirected from a profound fascination with Psychology to the profession that I now want to pursue, nursing. Whether it is providing care at a local clinic, to being first responders at times of atrocities; nurses are a vital part of the overall health of the community."

Congratulations Marie!

Let’s give Marie a big round of applause 👏🏾 🤍 Congrats.
